Deep red, with purple fringe. The nose offers up a great array of aromas: mocha, mulberry, walnutty oak, earth, vanilla and currents. In the mouth the tannins are fine and dusty, smooth and supple texture and fine balance. Really great fruit characters of mulberry and cherry with some cola, spice and undergrowth. This is fairly classic rioja with a touch of modern craftsmanship.

Sweet and smoky on the nose with some tarry overtones to the dustily balsamic dark almost fudgy fruit tones and top notes of cinnamon. . This smells a bit hot. Round and generous on entry with a little bit of heat noticeable right off the bat. There’s nice acid here buoyed by some soft tannins all supporting the young, slightly lactic core of brambly berry fruit with some sweet toasty wood on the back end and onto the short, chunky finish. At first I did not like this. Made in an oaky internmational style, almost dried out. I served it with a spicy vegetarian chilli which cut throught he oak and tannin. A little cherry fruit came through behind all the spiciness and tomato. Not bad match, but I don't think I would buy this wine again.

(100% tempranillo): Deep violet color. Brighter and more lithe than the 2009 version, offering fresh red berry and floral aromas and flavors and showing a touch of youthful jamminess. Lively and focused, with very good back-end clarity and lingering spiciness. Still very young but I find this delicious now. This wine comes from proprietary vineyards located around the towns of San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Laguardia at an altitude of 1,860 ft above sea level. Soils are calcareous clay with gravel. Deep ruby. Aromas of ripe cherry, cassis, blackberry and dark chocolate, with a touch of cola. Lush, layered and focused, with a creamy texture and hefty dark fruit flavors. Shows the ripeness of the year but theres good energy here too. Finishes with smooth tannins, a hint of licorice and very good length. Ill bet that this will be even better in a couple years but its approachable now. Sierra Cantabria's entry-level red, the 2009 Tinto was aged for 6 months in tank followed by 6 months in seasoned oak. Spice box, cedar, incense, violets, and black fruits inform the nose of this savory, easygoing, friendly wine. Nicely proportioned and surprisingly long in the finish, this is an excellent value meant for drinking over the next 4-5 years. Deep red. Spicy redcurrant and strawberry on the nose, with subtle spiciness and floral notes building. Clean and focused, with brisk red berry and bitter cherry flavors and no obvious tannins. Elegant, sweet Rioja with impressive finishing lift and cut. This is a great value.
