Wine Advocate ReviewRated 91The 2005 Las Rocas Vinyas Viejas comes from high altitude, low yielding, 100+-year-old Grenache vines and is aged in French and American oak. More aromatic than its sibling, it has a splendid perfume of spice box, lavender, kirsch, and blueberry. It is also a bit richer and longer in the finish. While it may evolve for 1-2 years, who could resist it now?Wine Tasting NotesThe Vinas Viejas is the big brother to the regular Garnacha. Made from 100% old vine Garnacha (a minimum of 45 year old), grown in non-irrigated vineyards, the Vinas Viejas is polished, elegant and layered with soft lush fruit. Aged in American oak (60%) and French oak barrels (40%) it has a complexity and flavor profile unheard of at this price point.

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Advocate Review Rated 91 The old-vine cuvee, the 2006 Las Rocas Vinyas Viejas, was recently reviewed in the Value issue but is worth reprinting because the 2007 has yet to be released. Aged entirely in French and American oak, it is purple-colored with a cedary, spicy, cherry and cranberry bouquet. More structured than the "regular" bottling, it has layered fruit, savory flavors, excellent depth, and a fruit-filled finish. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.
