Cubillo is Lopez's answer to Rioja Crianza. Following the style of all their wines, this wine could be labeled a class above - as a Reserva - but they keep it a Crianza. It compares to most other Rioja wineries' Reservas since the wine is aged 3 years in oak, followed by another 2-3 years in bottle. The resulting wine is fruit-forward but with developed, older wine aromas of cherries and spices. This wine pairs nicely with Queso de la Serena, a gooey, pungent, raw Merino sheep's milk cheese available online at Murray's Cheese.
This lively red shows black cherry and coffee flavors mdash; fresh, clean and balanced. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

Coming from the family-run and very traditional Lopez de Heredia estate, this wine has notes of strawberry, blood orange, pomegranate, coconut, and exotic spices. Viña Bosconia is produced from the juice of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano, aged for three years in American oak barrels. The winery is one of the few in Rioja still owned by its founding family.
Red-ruby. Roasted berries, plum, chocolate and spicecake on the nose. Fat, sweet and smooth, with somewhat cabernet-like flavors of roasted red berries and spicecake. A fruit-driven, easygoing, essentially soft wine with a bit more class than the basic Protocolo red; the vineyards here are at higher altitude and the oak barrels are a bit younger.
Great mealtime red, a medium-bodied, softer, lush style with fresh berry and plum. Enough zest on the finish to hold its own with a variety of foods.

"This vintage was classified by The Regulating Council as GOOD. We suffered a frost on April 5th with a temperature of 0,5 degrees below zero. It caused important damages in the vineyards of Viña Tondonia where the quantity of grapes was reduced by 30%. There was another spring frost on April 16th of which the damages became evident at the end of June. All the tempranillo from all our vineyards suffered the cold and rainy days of June and, due to this, the pollenization was not good. As a consequence, we had the second shortest harvest in terms of quantity of the last 10 years. We started harvesting on October 3rd with the white grapes and on the 7th with the reds, finishing on the 26th of the same month. The weather during the harvest was irregular and with lack of light so the smaller quantity helped the final maturation. The quality was good with averages of 13% alcohol contain for white grapes and 12,8% for the reds. Both, white and red grapes were healthy. Until today all the Reserva wines have evolved very well and are showing with an elegant quality." -Winery
