Earthy and funky at first with eggshell and soil notes, this blossoms slowly with raspberry and wild strawberry tones accented with dried citron peel. Light and fresh in the mouth, this shows some nutty oak up front before laying down a pure, crisp mid-palate replete with crystal clear raspberry fruit. This is high acid without being acidic and displays rare elegance and finesse with its soft and rich yet bright mouthfeel. 93pts
The nose seems a little advanced but with Plum, beef stock, Caramel, vanilla and a bit of charred wood. On the palate it shows cranberry fruit with rose petals and minerally earth. A medium bodied wine that seems really tight right now with a lot of acidity. It seems to shut down your palate a bit and didn't go very well with the food on this night.

Blend is as follows: Tempranillo 80%, Garnacha 15%, Graciano 3% and Mazuelo 2%. Pale in color, easy to drink, hints of strawberry, slightly metallic aftertaste.
A lovely race car cherry red hue. A very elegant and delicate nose replete with raspberry, strawberry and dried cherries is accented with herbs, cedar and pipe tobacco. A very direct, pure and mildly rustic palate that reflects the dried cherry elements from the nose; has a bright and uplifting acidity. The mildest hint of mineral and finessed tannins complete a pretty package. A wine to enjoy with a meal and a grand example of the traditional style of Spanish winemaking.
Can't beat the price on a 10 year old Rioja!
One of may favorite wines that delivers quality year in and year out. These guys don't f&^k aroudn -- making their wines only in prominent vintages and releasing only when they feel it is appropriate. Within these regards, they are the most serious wine makers on the planet. Now for the wine: What I love so much about Lopez de Hererdia is the bottle diversity and the way it changes as it stays open. There is always a pretty valencia orange nose, laced around this highly unique pomegrante essence that seeps out into your sinuses. Even more so, are the racy and firm Burgundian textures that open up and become alive. This is what wine is supposed to be.

A sophisticated nose of roasted vanilla and walnuts lead to velvety smooth, mellow, refined and elegant fruit that leaves a lasting impression of why Riojas are world-class wines.
Bright medium red. Expansive bouquet of musky red and dark berries, medicinal cherry, rose oil and Asian spices. Juicy raspberry and rose pastille flavors are framed by silky tannins and given a boost by zesty minerality. Packs a solid punch but comes off almost weightless. The tannins fade into the sweet fruit on the finish, which is strikingly pure and very persistent. Lovely right now.
The 2001 Vina Tondonia Reserva is bridled with a lovely nose of decayed red fruit, fireside hearth, a touch of mulberry and small red cherry. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, crisp red fruits (wild strawberry and cranberry) with a sharp, vibrant, tense, tannic finish that has immense precision. There is a slight saline note lingering in the mouth after the wine has (regretfully) departed. Drink now-2030+.

What you end up with is a wine built in four dimensions, the power and density of fruit rounded by time, the graceful hand of the winemaker capturing the season in subtle scents of rose and cherry-skin tannin. Everything about the wine is gentle while remarkably long, set to develop for another nine years or more.
Austere and old-fashioned in style, this wine's color and aroma show some oxidation, while its fruit is lean and light. The flavors are mature and the black tannins have a gentle grip, ready to drink with prime rib.
Wonderful velvety texture, great depth of fruit, finely balanced, in the flush of youth but with a great future ahead, should you choose to age this wine.

DEVELOPMENT After maceration of the grapes in the best conditions, the wine fermented at controlled temperature and spent 40 months in American oak barrels and subsequent stay in our drafts for another 40 months to be tuned. Tasting Notes Atejado ruby red welt, middle layer. Fine and elegant nose, leather and musk that evolves as bitumen and spicy pepper. Intense and deep impressions on the palate von dried flowers and leaves and long finish, aromatic with some earthy notes of truffle. Serving temperature 18 ° C and 20 ° C. Join roasts and game, like pheasant or pigeon. Perfect with cold cuts and cheeses.
