Editorial Reviews for Bodegas Ramon Bilbao Tempranillo Rioja Edición Limitada Crianza
Quite aggressively oaky on the nose at first sniff though there seems to be some interesting things going on underneath all that oak, as well as a bit of alcoholic heat. There’s definitely an impression of cherry fruit here as well as some baked, toasty notes. This is relatively thick up front and a bit soft in the mouth lending this a broad lush feeling. The oak is obvious, and lends this sweetness, yet somehow it manages to not be overwhelming. The fruit sits beneath the oak, lending good richness to the palate. The finish is rather dry and a bit short, with some black cherry fruit appearing on the finale. A well-made wine but one that trades feel for detail. 85pts
This shows a nice layered look on the nose with slightly jammy wild strawberry fruit well matched with lightly nutty oak that imparts a nice smoky top note here. In the mouth this combines a touch of extra richness with nice refreshing acids to give this a rare combination of weight and energy. The oak comes up on the mid-palate adding additional depth and complexity but never covers the fruit, which turns a bit more red currant like with edges of astringency. The finish is a touch dry with lovely tension created by the edge of astringency and the soft richness of the fruit. This lacks a touch of elegance but it packs a nice mouthful of fruitiness with a lovely hint of rusticity. This is a wine made for roast or grilled goat or lamb. 88pts
User Reviews for Bodegas Ramon Bilbao Tempranillo Rioja Edición Limitada Crianza
Add your reviewDusty nose full of soy sauce and beef jerky. Spice and black pepper on the attack -- this is really great because it leads with black fruit and by the end shows cherries and a hint of sweetness. Could very easily have a bottle of this to myself.
Fresh pungent red fruit aromas, leather and earth. There's some red licorice and a great dose of drying acidity, dark fruit throughout the palate which ends in a bit of chocolate and coffee. Very nice.
Soft aromas of toasted marshmallow, horse blanket, and urinal cake (seriously). The mouth has a very supple roundness with nicely evolving tannins. A little bit of coconut and stone fruit on the finish.
A bouquet of rich dark and red fruit wafts through the nose with a bit of wood on top. The palette brings brighter red fruit, medium body and a touch of tannin. Perfect balance and a delight to sip on and pair with food.
Dark fruit and spice on the nose. A perfectly balanced body with hints of dark cherry and leather. Very delicious wine.

The 2009 Crianza is a pure Tempranillo from vineyards in Haro, Briones, San Vicente and La Bastida, all located in Rioja Alta. It has lively Morello cherry and soy notes on the nose that is well-defined and develops rose petal scents with aeration. The palate is fresh and fleshy with crisp acidity and joyful, red cherry and strawberry fruit on the harmonious finish. This is a very fine Crianza for the price. Drink now-2015.
According to the Wine Spectator - This lively red offers bright flavors of cherry, vanilla, smoke and spices, with a plump texture and just enough tannin for grip. Balanced and expressive. Drink now through 2013. 7,500 cases imported.
There is no Reserva or Gran Reserva in 2007 due to the average quality of the vintage so that fruit made its way in to the 2007 Crianza. It is 100% Tempranillo that spent 13 months in American oak. Aromas of cedar, tobacco, violets, black cherry, and blackberry inform the nose of this medium-bodied, spicy, nicely proportioned Rioja. It is a very good value for drinking over the next 4-5 years.
