Bodegas Protos Verdejo Rueda 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

The company's rapid growth brought about the problem of lack of space for the first time and the Winery began its expansion throughout the region. The construction of a wine-aging cellar began in the heart of the mountain holding up the Castle of Peñafiel. The quality and prestige the Winery acquired in the eighties led a highly recognized vine-growing area to take on its own name, Ribera del Duero, to identify the D.O. Control Board that watches over the quality of area wines. In 1995, the wine-aging cellar was enlarged and the Winery succeeded in the international winemaking panorama. The project continues growing: In the town of Anguix (Burgos), Protos has acquired a winery that has the latest cutting-edge technology. It can produce up to three million kilos of grapes, of which 1.5 million kilos go through the sorting table. Read less

This is gentle and low on the nose with a fine blend of subtle almond and fennel notes and ripe peachy and lightly tropical/passionfruit-y fruit. Rich in the mouth and while this has bright acid, it’s got a lot of flesh as well, lending this a somewhat clumsy feel. There’s nice, rich fruit flavors here and the wine does tense up nicely on the mid-palate before flashing a touch of mineral on the back end, complimenting a touch of orange and peach that drives the moderately long finish. 89pts

Apricots, peaches and citrus fruits, very sweet. Slight kick when tasted; delicious.

Very sweet with a buttery and creamy body. A hint of vanilla and almond on the finish. I really enjoyed this glass and would definitely buy a bottle in the future.

This one had a nice nutty, almondy nose. Very cloudy appearance. On the palate, very soft fruit. The nuttiness continues with hints of sugar and passion fruit. Not quite acidic enough for me but this is a very solid wine.
