Bodegas Ondarre is located in Viana, a historic town 8 kilometres from Logroño (La Rioja), rich in tradition, still preserving traces of its medieval fortress. Its name comes from a hundred-year old country house, the property of the founders of the wine cellar. Production is solely composed of Reservas, Cask-fermented Whites and Cava sparkling wines, with a limited number of bottles. Wines of fine quality which Bodegas Ondarre want to consolidate among the most exceptional palates. Bodegas Ondarre have the most advanced vinification technology. Ageing is in new American- or French-oak casks. The bodega has made special efforts to renew its stock of barrels so as to obtain this marked character in its wines which is giving them so much prestige. The typicity of the Graciano grape can be identified in the characteristic balsamic aromas of mint or aniseed on the nose of this wine. These are accompanied by ripe fruit and hints of flower blossom, completed with toffee and coffee nuances, which also some through. The palate shows richness with balanced vanilla oak.

Big legs, sharp nose with a little wet straw. Medium to full-bodied, big-flavored with a bloom of blueberries and something like cedar, suddenly changing to a sour cherries and tannin finish.

Rioja is the leading wine region of Spain producing predominantly red wines in the north of the country. When in the 1880's phylloxera struck in the Bordeaux region many of its vignerons crossed the border into Spain, bringing their winemaking skills. They set out to serve mainly the needs of the French market with wine made in Rioja according to French methods; the "barrica", identical to the Bordeaux barriques of 225L, was introduced to mature the wines for 2 to 3 years and is still used in Rioja to this day.
