Ruby-red. Varietally accurate redcurrant and cassis aromas are complicated by dried rose, tobacco and smoky minerals. Sweet red and dark berry flavors are brisk and sharply focused, with dusty tannins adding grip. Suave, pure and energetic on the finish, which echoes the red fruit qualities and becomes creamier with air.The 2006 Cabernet (60%)-Tempranillo (40%) is a bit more substantial. Dark ruby-colored, it offers aromas of spice box, black currants and blackberry. There is a solid core of fruit on the palate and 2-3 years of aging potential. The firm finish suggests that it will be at its best from 2010 to 2016.If you can get by the bell pepper and other Bordeaux-like herbal notes, this Cabernet-Tempranillo blend feels very good on the palate. There's no wayward or jagged acidity or tannic clamp, and the core flavors of cassis and black cherry, while nudged by green pepper and herbs, are solid. Finishes with richer flavors of cough syrup, cola and menthol. Not for everyone, but shows integrity and core power. - M.S.
