Bodegas Muga Tempranillo Blend Rioja Reserva 2008
This offer up a very stinky, very Burgundian nose with a core of leather and spice notes gently backed with vanilla tones. High toned and with great intensity this adds expansive notes of reduced red berries. Opulent and layered in the mouth with black cherry fruit of almost syrupy quality. Lots of very fine tannins add support to the fruit and the superbly integrated acidity keeps everything fresh. This is very youthful and absolutely delicious. 2008-2016Add winemaker's notes

Nice Rioja. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Love it. Strawberries and a perfect balance. I wish I could drink it everyday.
Smooth, silky, and a bit light bodied. Sweet nose of candied red and black berry, floral hints, sweet earth or compost. Round, mild, smooth, clean blackberry, some cherry, strawberry, leather, and nut oil. Finish of vanilla and hint of leather.
Tame, elegant, balanced, delicious. Alluring nose of deep rich cherry-berry fruit, and interesting mineral. Gentle on the attack, in the mouth consistent layers of rich ripe fruit and mineral from start to finish. Medium body, medium acid, medium pleasant and gripping tannins. Like a Bordeaux Premier Cru Classe, but ready to drink. Phenomenal.
WS gave it 90 pts. Interesting, but nice overall. Tart plum, leafy smoky and somewhat minerally tempranillo. Thin mouthfeel but strong flavors. - Tasted at Marché Bacchus 1/23/10

Rich aromas and flavors of blackcurrant and cherry. A top-value reserve bottling, unfiltered and exhibiting a smoky, spicy edge.
Deep and earthy, and packing more than a punch. This is big-time modern Rioja in brash form. The nose is gorgeous, dealing milk chocolate and fresh soil. The palate is a tight blend of tannins, acids and zesty flavors. Big and hedonistic for sure, but yoursquo;ll love the plum, pepper and espresso flavors. Still feverishly tannic; hold at least until 2005.
Another fine value from Spain is Mugarsquo;s 1992 Rioja Reserva Unfiltered. The wine exhibits a plum color, followed by a sweet, fragrant nose of ripe fruit, tobacco, smoke and vanilla. Dense and medium to full-bodied, with layers of spicy, ripe berry fruit. it is an expressive, youthful, yet authoritatively, powerful and flavorful Rioja to drink over the next 5ndash;6 years.
Focused and balanced, this vivacious red delivers black cherry, mineral, mint and citrus peel flavors, with firm but well-integrated tannins and a fresh, floral finish. Drink now through 2012.
Full-bodied and pushing up against raisiny and baked, but it draws back at the final moment and competently settles into its richness and ripeness. Generous and dark in the mouth, with meaty tannins and flavors of black raspberry, plum and mocha. On the finish, therersquo;s a hint of fresh tomato to go with vanilla and leftover berries. Drink now through 2013.
The purple-colored 2005 Muga Reserva, a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, and the balance Mazuelo and Graciano. It was aged for six months in wood vats followed by two years in new French and American oak. It delivers an alluring nose of cedar, tobacco, earth notes, mineral, and black cherry. This is followed by an elegant wine with good depth and enough ripe tannin to evolve for several years. Nicely balanced and long in the finish, it will be at its best from 2012 to 2020 if not longer.
