Add your reviewNose of freshly turned soil. Loads of earth. Funky cheese on the nose. Red fruit is downplayed. Flavors of plum, a nice earthiness, roasted coffee, sharp cheese. It's rich and complex with great structure. Wonderfully balanced!
The garnet-colored 2001 Prado Enea Gran Reserva exhibits aromas of wood smoke, vanilla, pencil lead, damp earth, and spice box. Firm and elegant, this racy, classically-styled Rioja can be enjoyed now but should drink well through 2021. 91 Points, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate # 183, Jun 2009.

Bodegas Muga Prado Ena Gran Reserva Rioja D.O.Ca. 2001: Sie bekommen einen Genuss der Extraklasse. Der 36 Monate im Barrique gereifte Gran Reserva kommt aus der berühmten Bodega Muga. Im Glas leuchtet er dunkel kirschrot. Das Bukett enthält rote und schwarze Früchte, kombiniert mit einer mineralische Note. Insgesamt wirkt der Wein schön fleischig. Er hat komplex strukturierte Tannine und wundervoll weiche Tannine und ist lange lagerfähig. Das Lesegut wird streng selektiert. Die Gärung erfolgt mit natürlichen Hefen in großen Eichenholzfässern. Anschließend folgt die malolaktische Gärung. Der Ausbau findet zu 80% französischen und zu 20% in amerikanischen Barriques statt. Danach wird der Wein mit natürlichem Hühnereiweiß geschönt und weiter in der Flasche ausgebaut.Er passt wunderbar zu reifem Käse oder einer noblen Zigarre. Dunkles, reifes Ziegelrot. Komplexes Bukett: Zigarrenkistchen, Leder, Tabak, reife, dunkle Beerenfrucht, Waldboden. Im Gaumen balanciert, mit feinem, leicht herbem Gerbstoff. Frische Säure stützt den mittelgewichtigen Wein. Recht langer Abgang. Ein klassischer, reifer Rioja mit sehr vielschichtiger Aromatik.
One of Rioja's great vintages that will no doubt be sought by collectors and wine enthusiasts alike. Full of spiced aromas, chocolate and dense berries. Full-bodied, smooth and well-balanced.

95 points Wine & Spirits: A pure expression of Rioja Alta fruit, Prado Enea grows at Muga's highest vineyards in Sajazarra, at elevations of 2,000 feet. The site's cool temperatures often extend the harvest into November, the slow maturation of the grapes creating this vibrant 2001 focused on peppery spice and floral notes. It's earthy and bright, with a supple richness to the tannin. This is the most aristocratic of the 2001 wines we tasted, and its resonant balance should allow the wine to age for another ten years or more. (Dec 2009)
