User Reviews for Bodegas Muga Rioja Blanco
Add your reviewOther impressions were richer than mine for this vintage. Balance favors the acid here with a nose of bread (or yeast) and mineral, followed by sour ripe fruit on the attack and in the mouth tart white grapefruit, mineral, and a hint of grass mid-palate. Finishes of fruit and mineral. Medium to light body, medium plus acid. Strong wine that might benefit from time to breathe.
Can't speak for the 2008, but just had the 2009 at a Spanish influenced Tapas joint in Ashville NC (Zambra's). Was blown away. Started drinking it before the food came and knew immediately it was going to be a kick ass food wine. Lots of fun to watch the non-wine geeks at the table cringe at the first sip of what to me was an incredibly complex, layered, and brightly acidic wine just screaming for food. Then the food arrived and the cringe looks faded as epiphantic moments were happening all around me. What a night! Love when wine likers suddenly become wine lovers, and that is what this wine is capable of doing. Came home and ordered a case from my wine shop. Get some now. I expect prices to go up on this one as more folks here discover it. Not sure we even get that much in the US.

Isaac Muga is one of Rioja's great characters and his wines share his exuberant personality. His white balances spicy oak and floral quince flavors. Medium-bodied and quite flavorful; enjoy this with zesty shrimp or chicken dishes.
