Bodegas Montecillo Rioja Gran Reserva 2002

Member Review by drdebs:

18 mos in French oak, 2 years of battle aging leads to a slightly darker color than the Crianza bottling. Aromas are much shyer at first, but a vigorous swirl yields plum, blackberry, and spicebox aromas. Less apparent tannins and acidity than the red label, with berries and spicy clove flavors. Beautiful texture, and a lovely spicy aftertaste. BAlance in more elegant and sophisticated.

Silky smooth with elegant fruit, fine dusty tannins and very pleasing complexity, this wine offers a classic expression of Rioja.
