Bodegas Lan 'Culmen' Rioja Reserva Single Vineyard Limited Avai 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

Bodegas LAN was founded in 1972; the initials represent the 3 provinces from which the wines are sourced; Logroño (now La Rioja), Álava and Navarra. It is located in the heart of Rioja Alta, which is synonymous with tradition and prestige. The Bodegas LAN barrel cellar extends over an area of 6,400m2. This is a unique setting with a pioneering and completely automated stacking, racking and climate control system. It currently houses a total of 25,000 casks of different types of oak: French, American, Russian and mixed (American oak staves and French oak heads) oak; all carefully selected from the world’s best coopers such as Taransaud, Seguin Moreau, Adour and Murua among others. Bodegas LAN is Rioja in 3 letters. Culmen is LAN's top wine, the pinnacle of Rioja. It is a blend of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano selected from 40-60 year old vines in the Vina Lanciano vineyard. Following fermentation the wine is aged 22 months in new French oak barrels and a further 24 months in bottle before release. Intense and bright cherry colour. Aromas of ripe plums, blackberries with balsamic notes. On the palate the wild berry flavours are complemented by mineral character, spicy hints, nutmeg, cinnamon and hints of smoke. Wonderfully complex red that is only produced in the best years. Serve with red and roasted meats, blue cheeses and even sweet desserts.
