What to Expect

Though Mourvèdre is a grape with Spanish roots, where it is known as Monastrell, it is most closely associated with the South of France and the Bandol appelation in particular, where the grape produces rich, powerful wines that retain rustic tannins partnered with dark, wild berry flavors and gamy, leathery nuances. It is also commonly called Mataro in California.

Winemakers Notes

- TASTING NOTES:

It has a very dark cherry colour with purple tones. In the nose it has powerful aromas of red berries, toasted and smoked notes from their aging in the oak barriques.
It has good structure with ripe and sweet tannins. In the mouth it is very long, and with a perfect balance between fruit, alcohol and the oak tones, which make it very pleasant and easy to drink.

Rices with meat, stewed meat, stewed vegetable, mushroom, poultry, sauces fish, smoked seafood, blue and cured cheese, red meat, roast and baked meat (lamb, pig, ox).

Inky purple in the glass. Black cherry, smoke, licorice, tobacco, and more. Medium bodied, but then come the tannins: firm, full and well integrated. Yum. Consistently a great wine at an even better price.

A great QVR and a nice introduction to Spanish wines. Not a dry food wine, but enjoyable. I've seen this offered as a different varietal from different years so I'm curious to learn more about this wine. Another Costco offering.

Densely coloured wine with a high impact impressive nose. The wine seems to be a bit of a monster from the intense black fruit aromas and complex smoky tobacco flavours laced with a chocolate and coffee sweetness. On the palate there is good structure and plenty of acidity to make this more elegant than the nose suggests. A wine with decent balance, concentration and length.

This purple-colored wine offers superb aromatics of wood smoke, damp earth, violets, and blueberry pie. Layered, succulent, and long, it will evolve for another 2-3 years and be at its best from 2010 to 2018.
