Bodegas Juan Gil Juan Gil Jumilla 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): [$16 list] (aged for a year in French oak): Bright purple. Powerful scents of dark fruit preserves, potpourri and candied licorice, with peppery spices in the background. Sweet and expansive on the palate, showing a juicy quality to its black and blue fruit, mineral and licorice flavors. Closes smooth and smoky, with silky tannins and a lingering mocha quality. (Sep 2014)

Juan Gil winery is located in the heart of the vineyard, in the north hillside De Cerezo which belongs to the property. This mountain, which is covered in trees, shelters the back of the installations, the rest is surrounded by vineyards. In this shady place, the cellar is protected from the heat of the area. The uneven land is also adapted to the needs in order to prevent damaging the good quality of the grapes. The installations are designed by the winery staff, trying to combine the most modern technologies with the traditional and familiar winemaking processes. They are provided with authomatic systems which can obtain all the information to have traceability of the whole bottling process -not only elaboration but also internal changes- from the vineyards to the customers. The processing capacity of the winery is three and a half million kg of grapes. All the buldings are air-conditioned. The aging cellar has a capacity of 3000 oak casks. The laboratory equipment is ready to carry out all the necessary quality controls to guarantee the consumers`health. Read less

Aromas of oak, vanilla and bing cherry.Bursting with flavors of rich ripe fruits and cherries it reminds me a little of cough syrup but in a nice familiar way. It's a complex wine with lots of depth and I think you really can't go wrong. - Winery ** SOLD OUT **

(100% monastrell, aged for 12 months in French oak): Inky purple. Sexy, oak-spiced aromas and flavors of black and blue fruits, with a smoky nuance gaining strength with air. Juicy, precise wine with very good finishing sweetness and gentle tannic grip. ** SOLD OUT **

(made from vines that are reportedly 50 years old) Vivid ruby. An expressive, mineral-accented bouquet displays blackberry, cherry cola and smoked meat, with suave floral and spice qualities that gain strength with aeration. Juicy and nicely focused, with precise dark berry flavors and silken texture. The spice and smoke notes linger on a long, sappy finish. This will benefit from a bit more bottle age or a little air. This expressive, focused red delivers plenty of bright cherry, cola, leaf and mineral flavors, with well-integrated tannins and bright acidity. Oaky, but carries it with style. Drink now through 2016. 5,000 cases imported. -TM
