What to Expect

Though Mourvèdre is a grape with Spanish roots, where it is known as Monastrell, it is most closely associated with the South of France and the Bandol appelation in particular, where the grape produces rich, powerful wines that retain rustic tannins partnered with dark, wild berry flavors and gamy, leathery nuances. It is also commonly called Mataro in California.

Reviews

Great, new-style wine for the price. Intense cherry nose. Rich mouth feel without being too heavy. Very forward jam and oak notes. Good value.

Heavy and thick -- almost syrupy. Nose of pepper and blackberries. It's a little hot, but the tobacco and licorice on the finish are nice. Quite tannic.

This is a great wine that has a powerful berry burst and a very smooth finish. Different from other Spanish wines in that it's not as earthy tasting. It's rich, blackberry almost inky color to it that clings to the side of glass. Undertones and after taste are similar to the initial taste. Consistently great all the way through. I received this as a gift so my friend must really like me! I will buy this again and again.

Tannic, but balanced. pepper, blackberries, and tobacco on the palate. Heavy but rich in flavor.

Heavy bottle warning! Spicy nose of white pepper, meat and wet wool. Spicy, still tight (decanting or letting breathe should do the trick). A very deep rich licorice wine. Hard to validate while this freshly opened, but fruit seems too restrained behind the dominant tannins and meaty flavors.

After an hour the wine had opened up a little, there's more fruit, but its still a hot heavy beast.

Great bottle for the price. Drink now or hold for a few years.
