A bit of pronounced oak greets the nose with supporting aromas of mineral, game, dried berry fruit, dried spices, tar and a little tobacco and ash. In the mouth, this has lovely, bright acidity. The fruit shows a touch of dried fruit character with flavors of orchard fruits, cherry and a hint of juniper spice. This is a little leafy on the back end with the acid popping again on the finish. Dusty, dry tannins support a hint of truffle on the finish along with a little blueberry compote. Complex and youthful, should improve. 91pts

From IWC, 88 points: "(95% tempranillo, with graciano and mazuelo) Light, bright red. Smoky red berries and cherry on the nose, with hints of leather and cured meat. Spicy redcurrant and strawberry flavors are complemented by floral pastille and herbs, with silky tannins adding firmness. Gains weight with air and finishes with lingering cherry and blackberry flavors."

Initially, the nose was a bit musty, with cleaning solution notes. Reminded me of the basement of the Park Slope Food Co-op for those who know. As it opened up, more fruit, especially currents came through. Soft and smooth mouth feel, with bright alcohol and cherry finish. Don't know if I'd drop $20 on this again, but it was decent.
Flat and fairly acidic. Initially tasted like raisin. After letting sit awhile, I got more of a fruity taste (mostly cherry). Not bad, but don't know if I'd buy it (sampled at a Rioja tasting).

The 2007 Senorio de P Pecina Crianza has a red cherry and orange rind-scented bouquet with a hint of tobacco creeping in with aeration. The palate is nicely balanced, with simple, rounded, cherry and strawberry fruit, which leads to a conservative, classic, leather-tinged finish. This is a competent modern Crianza. Drink now–2016.
A beautiful example of a traditional Rioja, Peciña’s Crianza sees two years of of used American oak aging before being bottled. Dried berries, autumn leaves, tobacco and a hint of sweet leather flavors seamlessly roll across the palate.
Lean, spicy and leathery, this is a red for people who like the funkier side of Rioja and don’t mind a bit of Brett. The finish is dry and peppery, ready for roast lamb.
Super-rustic and traditional, with tart cranberry and earth notes prominent. Iodine, mushroom and herb influence round out the complex palate. Medium-bodied and loaded with so many layers, you definitely taste something new with every sip. Drink this with herb-crusted lamb or pork loin.

Energetic, precise red berry flavors boast impressive depth and sweetness, with barely noticeable tannins and slow-mounting minerality adding more verve. Bright, spicy and insistent strawberry and redcurrant flavors define the long, juicy finish.
The 1999 Pecina Reserva is a blend from organically grown estate fruit. It was aged for 36 months in used American oak. Also dark ruby with a brick rim, it offers up aromas of cedar, spice box, damp earth, tobacco, and blackberry. With a feminine personality and a seamless texture, this silky wine offers complex flavors and a pure finish. Drink it over the next 6 years.
