A great value out of Ribera Del Duero. Dark plumb-like color with an earthy nose.
A nicely priced wine at $9.00 which I bought in a small wine shop in downtown Jacksonville Florida. I opened it and poured this ruby colored wine in my Reidel glass and I swooshed it around for about two minutes and I could smell cooked asparagus aged, damp leaves, mature plums and raspberry strawberry Nestle Quick powder with a twinge of vanilla and currant. The taste was old world with a veggy component, plum, firm tannins, sweet tomato, somewhat tart on the finish but pleasant enough to drink alone as I like dry wines. If you like tempranillo grapes then you probably can appreciate this wine as a solid starter for the price.

Dark purple. Primary dark berry aromas are complicated by musky earth and dark chocolate. Tarry cherry and cassis flavors are gently tannic and finish sweet. Straightforward, ready to drink and tasty. A great buy, too.
From the D.O. of Ribera del Duero in Spain comes this Tempranillo, dark purple in color with a nose of soft vanilla and earthiness. It is unlike other Tempranillos in that it tends toward seductive smoothness instead of overt spiciness, but spice and dense tannins are present, as well as plummy, jammy fruit and a touch of earth and minerality. The finish is ripe and lasting.
Sweet, fruity and much like you've seen many times before, this is a satisfying, nicely made fruitball with lots of oomph and admirable richness and balance. It's young and grabby, but gets better with some airing. Good with ham and/or chorizo.
The 2005 Vina Gormaz Tempranillo, produced form 50+-year-old ungrafted Tempranillo vines, is as good a value as exists from the D.O. of Ribera del Duero. This unoaked wine is dark ruby-colored with aromas of earth, spice, mineral, plum, and black currants. This is followed by a medium-bodied, ripe wine, with layered flavors, light tannin, and good balance. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. Buy this one by the case!
