Bodegas Esmeralda Red Blend Malbec Syrah Tilia 2009

Member Review by biondanonima:

Nice easy-drinking blend. Good acidity, not too tannic. Plenty of dark fruit but not at all sweet - there's a vegetal/herbal edge too. Good value.

Not bad for a $10 Malbec. Slight berry mouthfeel with earthy undertones. Nice wine by itself or paired with a peppered pork tenderloin with cherry reduction.

Sweet and savory aromas of hickory, BBQ and plum jam are nice, while the body is structured and full. The flavors follow the nose, meaning there's a savory, roasted quality to the wine but also jammy raspberry fruit notes. Chewy and a bit marinated, but it's quite good for the price.

Dark and full-bodied, with a big bouquet of coconut, char and blackberry. The palate is thick and chunky, and that seems right given the wine's sweet black-fruit and chocolate flavors. Add in some oak, baking spice and mocha and you've got a solid, tasty, generous wine.

A flashy, ripe style, offering sweet spice, plum sauce, raspberry jam and mocha notes backed by a plush finish. Very up front. Drink now.

Very sweet and forward, with ripe blackberry and boysenberry fruit pushed by a creamy-textured, mocha-tinged finish. Maybe a bit too sweet and easy for some folks, but will have fans. Drink now.
