Reviews for 2006 Vintage
100% Malbec from a mix of 27 year old (70%) and 52 year old (30%) vines.
Alcoholic fermentation at 27º-30º C with natural and selected yeast during 25 days.
Cold maceration during 5 days at 6º C
Malolactic Fermentation in new french oak wood. Non filtered.
Ageing during 8 months. 30% in new French oak barrels.
100% Malbec from a mix of 27 year old and 52 year old vines. Fermented using native yeast, malolactic fermentation takes place in 100% new French oak and aged an additional 9-10 months in lined cement tanks then bottled unfiltered. Dark purple-red color with an youthful aromatic fruit forward nose of black raspberry, boysenberry, blackberry pie, and baking spice. The palate has powerful flavors of spicy ripe dark fruit with an underlying minerality. Dry, medium to medium heavy bodied, tart acidity, well placed tannin, and a very long pleasurable finish. This is quite possibly the best tasting Argentinian Malbec I have ever tasted at this price level ($12 to $14 US). I rarely taste wines that retail for $40 from California that can compete with this quality!!! The producers, wonder brothers Pablo and Hector Durigutti who learned their craft from famed Italian superstar Alberto Antonini have struck gold! Only 1,250 cases produced. Big (14.5% abv) and in your face but well balanced and food friendly due to the perfect amount of acidity from those cool Mendoza nights. Good luck finding this stuff as it's only imported into California. 5/5
