Bodegas Emilio Moro Ribera del Duero Malleolus 2009

Very fresh and lively on the nose with immediate notes of blueberry pie, violet pastille, light sage and eucalyptus. This smells rather sophisticated with a gentle perfume-like note of vetiver, vanilla flowers and toasty spices. On entry, this shows flashes of gamy, campfire flavors that are quickly subsumed by clear, earthy wild raspberry fruit flavors and nuanced notes of dried herbs, a hint of green anise seed and dry, toasty oak notes. The tannins here are superbly managed and firm yet discreet. Acidity lends a juicy edge to the increasing, distinct wild berry fruit. The finish is fairly long with a nice herbal seed note punctuating the slightly candied boysenberry fruit. There's a lot of fruit here but it's not as fruity as it sounds, with lovely grace notes of leather and earth grounding the palate. Rather sophisticated on the palate as well. 91pts

Emilio Moro, the founder of Bodegas Emilio Moro, was born in Pesquera de Duero, a wine area of time-honoured traditions, where some of the flagship wines of the Ribera del Duero appellation are now produced. It was in this year that the winerys first vineyard, Finca Resalso, was planted.

The nose showed rich dark berry, blueberry skins, brown sugar, vanilla and a whiff of gravel dust and hints of barnyard. On the palate, it was feminine and elegant with an unexpected weightless sensation complimented by focused ripe fruits and hints of holiday spice. Very young but impeccably balanced. It finished fresh but with berry extract saturating the senses. (92 points)

For the 2009 Malleolus Ribera del Duero, the wine is 100% Tempranillo that is a nice deep purple color in the glass. The nose is somewhat fruity, with notes of blackberry and plum, with some notes of green grass, some toasted oak and a hint of minerality. The taste has some lovely tart cherry up front that quickly transitions to some lovely leather notes and flavors of green grass, as the wonderfully structured tannins lead to a long, smooth and delicious finish. This wine is just incredibly well structured, it makes me want to drink this wine all night long! Fresh vanilla and licorice aroma - very barrel driven, with some moderate notes of eucalyptus. The body approaches with well rounded and sumptuous plum and black fruit. The finish is very smooth.

Typical tempranillo nose, fruit-forward with a hint of smoke, vanilla, and leather. Well-structured palate, black cherries. Medium tannins on the finish. This is a wonderful "sipper" and would serve as a great introduction for someone who has never tried tempranillo. Paired nicely with seasoned flank steak. Emilio Moro has another hit. 88 points.

In der Nase Cassis, schwarze Kirschen, Oliven, Lakritze sowie gut integrierte Holznoten. Am Gaumen herrlich dicht, feine Extraktsüsse, klar strukturiert und gekonnt gebündelt bis ins lange Finale. Ein genialer Klassiker und jedes Jahr aufs Neue ein Bestseller.

Bis zu 75-jährige Tinto-Fino-Reben werden für den Malleolus verwendet. Ausdrucksstarkes Bouquet, schwarze Beeren, Kaffee- und Teeraromen, Tabak, schwarzer Pfeffer und mineralische Noten. Am Gaumen enorm komplex, finessenreich, cremig und mit bestens eingebundenen Tanninen.

Dunkle, reife Kirschen, sehr druckvoll mit einer Vanille- und Kräuternote. Im Gaumen eine kräftige und fleischige Struktur mit präsenten und runden Tanninen.

Emilio Moro Ribera Del Duero is a classic, in the 2009 vintage the wine's aromatics are very forward with bright red fruit character, cola, and spice notes.

Aus bis zu 75-jährigen Tinto-Fino-Reben gekeltert. 2008 war im Ribera del Duero ein mustergültiger Jahrgang. Im Frühling fiel genügend Regen, der Sommer war wie gewöhnlich heiss und der Herbst war tendenziell kühl und trocken, sodass die Trauben optimal heranreifen konnten. Das Resultat ist ein grosser Tinto Fino, der Kraft, Komplexität und Charme vereint.
