Bodegas Castro Martin Family Estate Selection Albariño 'Sobre Lias' 2006
The delightful Angela Martin and her husband Andrew McCarthy run the Castro Martin estate, in Rias Baixas, on Spain's Galician coast. A one grape winery, this Bodega is all about Albarino and Castro Martin has led the way in the grape's recent revival. Angela was one of the first winemakers to recognise the benefits of cool, temperature controlled fermentations to protect Albarino's delicate, aromatic fruit. The Castro Martin Family Estate Albariño is mineral and fine. It has a distinct salty minerality on the nose, with a whiff of seaside air, leading to pure, clean, limpid white fruit aromas. The palate almost shimmers with tang and vibrancy, and though it has a steely precision, there is an abundance of fruit too that has a peachy, pear-like quality backed up by a vivid streak of lemon and mineral acidity. Albarino was made to go with seafood and fish - mussels, crab, oysters, langoustine and lobster - make a perfect companion.
A small family owned and managed wine cellar making top quality albariño wines that are now sold around the world. Our philosophy is simple - to make the best possible wine that nature will allow, using new innovation wherever possible, but whilst still respecting the tradition of our denomination.
