Add your reviewDeep purple red with my grandmas spice box that she used to baked cookies with on the nose. Seriously, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove which morphs into black pepper, all of which sits on a palate of mysterious dark fruits. Really a fun wine to keep my nose buried in. In the mouth this wine is rich, dense, and full of similar ideas of which the nose is willing to share. Amazing acidity and great spice, with tannins that coat and yet act as a framework to the wine more than an act unto themselves. This is a rich wine, that I would think in 5yrs would be even better, integrating the rich dark fruits with myriad spices. Fun wine, and seriously worth the money.
Dark purple wine, rich in color, showing rich and aromatic notes of black raspberry, blueberry, dark chocolate, wait, no, mocha, spice box and black pepper. Basically, think exotic and dark! In the mouth, the acidity immediately leaps out at me, then slowly ebbs away leaving rich dark spice and mineral flavors. Gripping, but not overwhelming, tannins, blend well into this powerhouse of a wine. I see great potential for this wine in the future.
Good, dark berries up front with some dryness on the backend. Bouquet had a lot going on. Fruity, floral, kinda ballsy.
Vanilla and black fruit nose. Vanilla for miles. Nice tartness, a good bit of refreshing acidity, wooded, tannic, with lingering dark chocolate on the finish.
from 2 Days per Bottle.Night OneThe nose on Night One starts with bright red fruit, cherries mostly, with a slight watermelon background. There is also a secondary smell of burnt rubber. There is greater complexity on the palate. The fruit is still red, but cherries are joined by tart cranberries and wild strawberries. Dusty leather tannins and some smokey meat join the attack. There are several flavors dancing around here, including coffee, cocoa, violets and licorice. Almond skins and cherry pits add a touch of bitterness on the finish. This is a very interesting wine, and an amazing QPR. I can hardly wait to see what happens over night and what it has to offer on Night Two.Night TwoOn Night Two, minerality leaps out of the glass with the first sniff. After than, cherries and a very clear strong smell of fresh-ground nutmeg follow the stones. The palate is mostly red fruit, tiny translucent wild cherries and strawberries, some cranberries and yes, some watermelon still lurking in the background. There is some minerality and the charred well-done end of a nice prime rib. Tannins are still fine and dusty. The mid-palate again adds a few fleeting flavors, cocoa, flowers and fennel. The finish is sweet and a touch bitter, like fruit, maple and cherry pits all together. This is good wine, amazingly deep and complex for under $10.
A strong meaty nose with black pepper and blackberries. Nice mouthfeel and finish. Very good bottle for the price. Recommend!
91 points and listed as a "Spanish Wine Bargain Under $20" by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. 90 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated purple. Smoky raspberry and cherry on the nose, with a sexy mocha quality adding complexity. Fleshy, round dark fruit liqueur flavors caress rather than pummel the palate. Gentle tannins arrive late to add structure but this is all about silky, juicy fruit." (Sept/Oct '07)

(65% monastrell, 15% cabernet sauvignon and 20% tintorera; this special cuvee includes the oldest monastrell vines of the producer) Bright medium ruby. Smoky black raspberry, black cherry and roast coffee aromas. Then sweet and dense but rather suave in the mouth, with complex flavors of plum, coffee, olive and Provencal herbs. Has the underlying sweetness of material to support its firm tannins. The crop level for this cuvee was just 18 hectoliters per hectare, according to the American importer, and the wine was done entirely in French oak.
This wine has luscious flavors of ripe black and red fruits and is a full-bodied blast on the palate. Leather and earth kick in to add some backbone, and the mild astringency of the tannins keep you begging for more.
Dark ruby. Expressive redcurrant and strawberry aromas complemented by minerals and baking spices and a suave floral nuance. Very fresh red fruit flavors are nicely underpinned by juicy acidity and a note of licorice. Finishes dry, firmly structured, juicy and deep. This should sweeten up with a year of bottle age.
Weingut: CastanoRegion: Murcia - YeclaRebsorte: 65% Monastrell, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Garnacha TintoreraInhalt: 0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 14,5 Vol.%Säuregehalt: 5,25 g/lRestsüße: 2,25 g/lFassreife: in Barriques gereift (10 Monate)empfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16-18 °CAuszeichnungen:91/100 Punkte Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate Rotwein > Spanien > Murcia
(old-vines monastrell and cabernet sauvignon) Full, bright ruby. Superripe, slightly roasted aromas of candied cassis, leather, licorice, dark chocolate and meat. Dense, thick and concentrated, with noteworthy depth of flavor and a note of espresso; just this side of heavy. Finishes with big but sweet tannins.
The 2004 Solanera is a blend of 65% Monastrell, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Tintorera raised in French oak. More complex than its siblings, this purple-colored wine offers fragrant aromas of spice box, smoke, blueberry pie and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied, the wine is plush and full-flavored with enough structure to support several years of additional bottle age. It should drink well for 8-10 years.
