Bodegas Castaño Monastrell Yecla Rosado 2006
The Castaño family has 410 hectares of vineyards in Yecla in south eastern Spain. They have steadily improved quality over the last few years and modernised their style. They symbolise the best of what southern Spain has to offer: rich, warm climate wines made from grapes grown at altitude and transformed into robustly modern wines. The wine is a deep, cherry-red in colour, with intense perfumes of spicy, raisined fruit and dried fig on the nose. Balsamic notes, vanilla and cinnamon spice add a rich sheen to the voluptuous fruit palate. Ripe, chocolatey tannins and a clean balancing acidity cut through the sweetness of the wine, preventing it from cloying. Long and spicy on the finish.
Dark raspberry in color showing a bright expressive nose of black cherry, black pepper and black licorice. Medium body in the mouth with good acidity and firm tannins that coat and cling to every inch of my mouth. On the palate, the wine is reserved showing a bit of cherry and leather. Pretty dimensional but a good wine.
I give this a higher rating than it probably deserves compared to what the typical oenophile drinks. But for the price, it is one hell of a wine. Nice red fruits, but a dry, soft acidity. Terrific Spanish table red for just about any meat meal, or sitting around drinking.
Dark and lush, with nice tannins and big fruit. Dark cherries and a bit of smoke. Medium long finish. Very tasty! Great price at under 10 bucks.
Plum jam aroma and palate, with just enough tannin at the end to keep it interesting. Delicious, gulpable!
This is a serious bargain at under $10. Very dry and will be an awesome summer barbeque wine. I can't wait to open up a bottle and grill!
A very drinkable red at the right price. Great all year 'round.
100% Monastrell that spells much bigger than it tastes. Dried fruit taste. Dark in the glass. Excellent value.
