Bodegas Castaño Monastrell Yecla Dulce 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

The Castaño family has 410 hectares of vineyards in Yecla in south eastern Spain. They have steadily improved quality over the last few years and modernised their style. They symbolise the best of what southern Spain has to offer: rich, warm climate wines made from grapes grown at altitude and transformed into robustly modern wines. The wine is a deep, cherry-red in colour, with intense perfumes of spicy, raisined fruit and dried fig on the nose. Balsamic notes, vanilla and cinnamon spice add a rich sheen to the voluptuous fruit palate. Ripe, chocolatey tannins and a clean balancing acidity cut through the sweetness of the wine, preventing it from cloying. Long and spicy on the finish.

From that moment onward, Ramon did not stop making improvements. It was in the early 80s when he bought the first bottling plant. During the 90's, participation in trade fairs, tastings, and market research trips began with the full incorporation of his three sons: Ramon, Juan Pedro, and Daniel. It was during this period that the recognition and appreciation, both national and internationally, arrived. The courage and determination of a man deeply rooted began to bear fruit. The development of Bodegas Castano is unstoppable, and the improvements are never-ending. The most recent of these was completed in 2002 with the construction of state-of-the-art storage premises: completely air-conditioned, with a new cooling chamber. Read less
