Torrontes 2012 - 87 points, Wine Advocate/ The 2012 Callia Alta Torrontes offers nectarine, lychee and passion fruit on the well-defined bouquet. The palate is fresh on the entry: very Gewurztraminer in style, with orange zest and ginger furnishing the finish.
Bodegas Callia is situated in the Tulum Valley in Argentina’s province of San Juan. It is nestled between the Pie de Palo hills to the north and the Cerro Chico Del Zonsa to the south. Two fincas (estates) encompass 300 hectares of land: Finca Pie de Palo and Finca 9 De Julio. At 2,133 feet above sea level, the area is blessed by temperate climate, low rainfall and rich sandy alluvial and clay loam soil; the result is intense and fruity wines that reflect the rich terroir of this region. Born from passion and legend, Bodegas Callia is named for a young woman who arrived in the province of San Juan many years ago. She wrote to her family describing San Juan as paradise endowed with abundant fruits despite the desert landscape. Her name was Callia and today, for the people of Argentina, Callia is synonymous with hope, endurance and success. Bodegas Callia celebrates the spirit of this illustrious woman. The winery’s goal is to produce the best wines in San Juan and the best Shiraz in Argentina. Along with creating quality wines, they continue to respect and support the people, nature and community from which their wines are created. Production Area Tulum Valley, San Juan, Argentina The grapes are cultivated from vineyards located in Caucete, at 650 meters (2,133 feet) above sea level, in alluvial, sandy-textured soil. The vines are drip irrigated with snowmelt runoff from the Andes, providing the optimum amount of water to each plant. Vines are trained on trellis. Torrontes 2008 - 86 Points & Best Buy, Wine Enthusiast/ Neutral smelling except for some apple, however the palate is perfectly juicy and fresh, with proper weight and pointed apple, melon and papaya flavors. With tropical sweetness balanced by acidic bite, this falls into a nice place and stays there for a while.

Alta Torrontes 2012 - 87 points, International Wine Cellar/ Aromas of peach nectar, mint, flowers, licorice and herbs, plus a whiff of orange oil. Brisk, bright and slightly tart. Modest texture and concentration.
Alta Torrontes 2008 - Sante/ Fresh and floral with bright acidity and flavors of honeysuckle and mandarin orange; light to medium bodied with ripe and bitter citrus on the finish. Very likeable.
Torrontes 2010 - 88 points, Wine Enthusiast/ Tropical aromas are fresh and clean, and overall this is an active, juicy wine with bright flavors of pineapple, melon and lime. There’s pop, proper acids and drive to the finish; shows the good elements of the grape at an easy-to-swallow price.
