Winemakers Notes
Deep and sweet, Tres Picos Borsao is cherry red in colour with a hint of purple tones. In the nose, there is a boundless bouquet of mature red fruits with traces of flowers that are typical of the best Garnachas. In the mouth, it is rich and well-structured simultaneously conveying flavours of blackberries, strawberries and tones of leather, vanilla and plums. Perfectly combined with a sweet and pleasant tannin, Tres Picos Borsao leaves us with a long, silky and balanced finish.
Editorial Reviews
Smells like blackberry pie. A bit zinfandel like with brambly dark fruits and lots of oak induced baking spices. Smells sweet on the nose with lots of layered vanilla, spice and roasted fruit notes. Big and think on entry with dense, chewy brambly blackberry fruit. A lot of wine with a soft, approachable character. There is sufficient structure to carry the wine but the appeal is the rich, dark coffee cream tinged blackberry pie fruits. The finish lacks the harmony of the midpalate with acidity sticking out and coming completely unintegrated on the caustic finish. 84pts

Reviews for 2007 Vintage
Red fruit, blueberry, flowers and spice on the nose, this wine has a sweet, sensuous, yet smokey taste on the swirl with a soft, lingering finish reminiscent of chili peppers and pencil lead. Beautifully balanced this Garnacha has layers of structure bolstered by firm, but not overbearing tannins. Approachable and seductive this offering provides simply outstanding value. 91.
This is a very good Grenache, somehting that truly surprised my palate when I poured this red beauty into my glass. It smelled of blackberries, cherries and you can smell the notable fruitiness, with a note of spice. Once I was done smelling the wine, and churning it in my glass giving it a few seconds to aerate, I sipped. The wine tasted of cherries, and gave my palate a cascade of plentiful tasteful pleasures and aromas. My the finish was smooth with subtle sweetness that can only be described as true art. This wine was very good, and I enjoyed it. I have not found a better Grenache yet. It simply a mom's cherry pis in a glass, delicious.
agree with Gregory: "A lot of wine with a soft, approachable character."
I had this lovely Spanish wine paired with a dry aged boneless rib-eye steak and garlic mashed potatoes. The wine's blackberry aromas and slightly peppery bite lent itself well the buttery feel of the steak. However, I also paired this wine with an 8 yr aged Gouda that was the perfect companion which to the wine to a differently, higher level, bringing out flavors of current, blackberry jam and softness with a hint of smoke.
Deep port-like purple-red color. Intense inky, berry nose, with cedar notes. Well-extracted, sweet fruit notes well underscored by rich, cedary tannins. Satisfying mouthfeel. Pretty decent value at its $15 retail tag. A staple.
Deep inky plummy red with a very young look, nose a balance of oak, alcohol and plummy fruit with a hint of menthol, medium-plus body, sweet and smoky in the mouth with a medium-long finish, soft tannins.
Excellent value with the weight and intensity associated with Aussies but with much more subtlety. $11.33 wholesale/$17 retail
Lovely nose -- dark fruits, tobacco, leather, smoke, vanilla, mocha. It has a smooth, thick, heavy-ish mouthfeel...very nice.
Big, bold, high alcohol (15%). Great table wine with spicy food. Recommend opening it an hour before drinking.
