Editorial Reviews for Bodegas Borsao Campo de Borja Tres Picos
A bit tight on the nose with a spicy, tarry blackberry and licorice nose with an ashy top note. Seamless on entry, then slowly fills the mouth with rich fruit, black and blue fruits, with well-integrated acids and nicely-managed tannins. There’s a little caramelized beefiness on the back end that leads into a rather fruity, long finish that hints at blackberry and black cherry with a beef jerky overtone. There’s a nice little mineral edge that emerges with time as well and a hint of blueberry. This is actually mighty tasty, but it wouldn’t surprise me to find out that it’s not 100% Garnacha.
Smoky and toasty oak tones initially dominate the nose. There’s some fruit here and a slate tone, but at this point everything is under the oak. A bit sweet on entry and very broad in the mouth. This has fine acidity and a nice bed of soft tannins that build on the palate, but feels a touch disjointed at present. Though it is rather smooth, maybe a bit too smooth. The fruit is rather dense and a bit heavy on the palate with a nice segue to more toasty oak-driven notes on the back end. The finish is clean, fresh and fairly spicy with a touch of heat and stickiness on the finale. 86pts
Smells like blackberry pie. A bit zinfandel like with brambly dark fruits and lots of oak induced baking spices. Smells sweet on the nose with lots of layered vanilla, spice and roasted fruit notes. Big and think on entry with dense, chewy brambly blackberry fruit. A lot of wine with a soft, approachable character. There is sufficient structure to carry the wine but the appeal is the rich, dark coffee cream tinged blackberry pie fruits. The finish lacks the harmony of the midpalate with acidity sticking out and coming completely unintegrated on the caustic finish. 84pts
Very intense cherry red colour with tones of purple. Presents in the nose a great concentration of aromas of ripe red fruit with floral nuances. In the mouth it is a well structured rich wine that evokes tastes of blackberry, plum and tones of leather and vanilla, with a soft and silky tannin. ~ The Winery ~
this wine was recommended to me by the sommelier at a qfc as a great value purchase. i was not disappointed. this wine has very distinct barbecue hints, and that is not a bad thing at all. definitely pair with a steak or something off of the grill.
This rich red is brimming with raspberry jam, chocolate, licorice and wild herb ... Drink now through 2015. -TM
Not bad- very high in alcohol (14.5%). It felt more like a dessert wine than a table wint to me. It reminded me of an overdone Argentinian Malbec.
This wine has a great nose of dark fruit with a gentle smokiness. The taste offers much of the same busting with the flavors of blackberry and black cherry. It has a light minerality with well balanced tanins. The finish is somewhat short in my opinion leaving a lingering flavor of light oak on the palate.
Third wine in the around the world wine tasting in February 2013. Flavor was strong and sweet, preferred others.
My first garnacha. Needed a lot of air for it to open up, soft fruit followed by bold tannins and a looong spicey finish.

Inky purple. Ripe black raspberry and cherry liqueur scents are brightened by zesty pepper and allspice nuances. Plush and sweet, with powerful cherry and red berry compote flavors given lift by juicy acidity. Gains flesh and depth on the impressively long, spicy finish, which is given shape by fine-grained tannins.
The 2011 Tres Picos offers gorgeous strawberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with notions of powdery chalk, pepper and spice. Lusciously fruity and medium to full-bodied with heady glycerin and richness, it should drink nicely for 3–4 years.
(fermented in stainless steel; half of the wine was aged in small French oak barrels, 40% new, and the other half in stainless steel tank): Inky purple.
Inky ruby in color, this Garnacha is highly complex with bouquet of cherry, dark berry liqueur, iron, tobacco and dried flowers. Tangy cherry and cassis flavors are on the primal side initially but soften and gain sweetness with air. Fine tannins add grip to the long, spicy finish, which repeats the iron note. This is very promising.
This rich red is brimming with raspberry jam chocolate licorice and wild herb flavors. Firm tannins are well-integrated and buoyed by orange peel acidity. A lively modern style. Drink now through 2015. -T.M. Wine Spectator.
Dark ruby color with shades of purple. At the nose there is a rich aroma of ripe berries with hints of floral tones typical of the Garnacha, a unique variety. In the mouth, it is a full bodied rich wine with a taste of blackberries, strawberries and hints of leather, vanilla and plums. It is perfectly combined with a sweet and pleasant tannin that leads to a long, balanced and smooth finish.
