2006 Vina Zaco was chosen by Wine Spectator as one of their Top 100 Wines of 2009. Rioja Vina Zaco from Bodegas Bilbainas is a fruit-forward Tempranillo with just enough oak aging to add intriguing notes of complex spice and vanilla. 100% Tempranillo carefully vinified to bring out the rich fruit. A short cold-maceration is followed by a slow, cooler than normal fermentation with skin contact for a full two weeks to extract as much flavor and color as possible. Nine month in French and American oak followed for a complex intermingling of flavors both spicy and succulent. A great value!
WS 88pts - The 2006 was on Wine Spectators Top 100 of 2009 - According to the Spectator - This polished red delivers black cherry, espresso and mineral flavors in a silky texture over firm tannins. Leafy and floral notes linger. Not powerful, but has intensity. Drink now through 2014. 20,000 cases made.
Vina Zaco is made entirely from the Tempranillo grape; a meticulous selection of just the right grapes to obtain this characteristic style of wine, with an expressiveness and personality that will leave no-one indifferent.
