An extraordinary red from Spain. While Priorat is not as well known as Rioja, it produces some of the most spectacular wines of Spain.

Dark brick/tile color. Nose of plums, leather and spices. Soft balanced and with strong plum and cherry flavors. Smooth tannins; long finish on fruit. This wine needs to open 2 hours before serving or decant. It then takes another dimension and becomes a grand vin that is extremely well made. Can be cellared for 6 to 8 years but delicious now.

I used to love this wine, but on its most recent tasting (2007), I found the 1998 very tired. We waited an hour for it to open up and soften, but it never did. Hints of elegant blackcurrant fruit, but not much else remained. A disappointment for the price.
