Food Pairings for Bodegas Ateca Garnacha
This wine showed great complexity for such a young wine. Big-bodied and savory with tastes of dark berry, licorice, and an earthy minerality. Love the bottle.
Rating 89: Very balanced wine on the fruity side what would be normal for Granache. long nice nose with berry aromas. Overall elegant fruity wine. I paid $13
This wine is a steal. It is a very refined bottle and is very plush. It is medium body and exibits ripe rasberry flavors with hints of vanilla and finishes with a smooth follow through. This would be a great deal at $15 let alone $7.
Along with the ripe fruit I got lots of smoke and meaty notes from this bottle. It was very unique and welcome change up.
I think I had a corked bottle. The last vintage was very good. I'll give it one more try.
I liked this a lot. It worked very well in two wine reductions I made.
Cola, juicy. Milk chocolate. Smooth. A little bland. $19
External Reviews for Bodegas Ateca Garnacha
Old vine Grenache from hillside vineyards, Atteca from Bodegas Ateca is robust and layered with rich plum and blackberry aromatics surrounded by smoke and spice notes.
The 2009 Ateca was sourced from mountainside vineyards and aged for 10 months in French oak. It displays aromas of cedar, an earthy minerality, black cherry, and lavender leading to a savory, deep, well-balanced red with succulent fruit and a lengthy, seamless finish. Rated 90+
Mitteldichtes, jugendliches violett-rot.
The 2008 Atteca was sourced from even older vines, 80-120 years of age in this case. Deep crimson-colored, it offers up an enticing perfume of spice box, violets, and black cherry. Supple-textured with excellent depth and concentration and plenty of savory fruit, it lacks only complexity but, at this price, who's complaining?
Inky purple. Ripe boysenberry and blueberry on the nose, with licorice and graphite adding complexity. Juicy dark berry preserve flavors show palate-saturating depth and impressive clarity, picking up smoky minerals with air. Energetic finishing notes of blackberry skin and candied licorice linger with impressive tenacity. According to the importer, the yield for this wine, made from vines reportedly 80 to 120 years of age, was less than one ton per hectare.
Atteca Garnacha has a deep, velvety texture derived from old vines, with lingering tastes of rich blackberry, blueberry and licorice and a subtle spiciness that's perfectly integrated with the smooth tannins. This is a wine I cannot seem to forget about, and still young so it should drink well for years to come. The complexity of the Garnacha is evident as it evolves nicely after opening. This is not a wine to rush through due to its complex and delicious appeal. You're going to want to save the label on this one!
Bright purple. Intensely floral bouquet offers scents of black raspberry, lavender, Indian spices and white pepper. Juicy dark berry flavors are complicated by notes of candied flowers and pepper and show no rough edges. The floral quality resonates on the spicy, long finish. I'd drink this over the next few years to take advantage of its vivacious fruit.
It is ripe cherry. It has an intense nose with predominance of red ripe fruits (raspberry, currant), balsamic sensations and mineral aromas. It is a fruity wine, very fresh and easy to drink that gives the pleasant sensation of savoring a fruity candy.
