Doesn't have the complexity of Moncayo one step more expensive. No hints of chocolate. Nonetheless, this is delicious garnacha. Not at all done in the French style. This is a big wine and definitely worth trying. Doesn't need food. Great bang for the buck.

Fantastic and fruit forward. Only downside is it lacks well developed character. Linear notes.

Dark purple. The nose offers surreal, room-filling perfume of ripe raspberry, blackberry, incense, vanilla and dried flowers. Shockingly understated on the palate, with vibrant red berry, smoked meat and baking spice flavors, silky tannins and crisp mineral bite. There's no excess fat or sweetness here. Finishes with palate-staining intensity and superb focus.

With only 1000 cases produced, this wine is a rare gem. Made from a selection of Old Vine Grenache from hillside vineyards. Rich, with a silky mouth feel, this wine bursts forth with flavors of kirsch, black raspberries, cassis, and vanilla. Underlying minerality gives this wine amazing structure.

Coming from the Alto Moncayo winery in the Campo de Borja region of north-central Spain, this is old vine Garnacha at its best. Deep ruby color, a nose brimming with blackberries, vanilla, and espresso, and spicy berry notes on the palate. All we can say is WOW!

Oaky flavors of cola, vanilla and toasted coconut enrobe a core of sweet, almost jammy blackberry fruit in this plush red. Soft tannins and lively acidity keep it in balance. For fans of oak. Drink now through 2008. 4,200 cases made. (TM) Wine Spectator. A Grenache wine from Aragon in Spain. 2002 Alto Moncayo, Bodegas Aquilon 750ml

Winemaker's Notes:

100% Garnacha. This wine is spectacular, and represents the perfect foil for grilled steak. Rich, full bodied and muscular, Alto Moncayo has riveting intensity and palate staining extract; this Spanish red is inky/purple, full-bodied, and rich. This pedal-to-the-metal offering should age handsomely for a decade. 600 cases produced. Not yet reviewed; 2008 vintage rated 93 points by Rhone Report.
