- ($55) Ruby-red. Intense perfume of boysenberry, sexy oak spices, vanilla and candied flowers. The concentrated flavors of red and dark berries and vanilla are almost sweet but are nicely lifted by juicy acidity. Finishes lush, broad and long, with supple tannins. Those who are laying out $100+ for California cult cabs ought to give this wine a go.

- Nice bottle of wine. Gets better with decanting. Tastes the chocolate and the dried fruit. Tannins are still hard. Would love to wait a few years and try it again.

- Chocolate, blackcherry, and dark candied fruits, this wine is a joy to smell! Huge acidty with fine rich tannins that coat your mouth. The fruit in the nose follow through to the mouth with chocolate coverd cherries coming to mind. Tasty wine that is a joy to drink. 4/5 [NR]

- The 2003 Aalto is a purple-colored wine offering a stylish nose of smoke, toast, graphite, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, ripe, but slightly compact and the finish is firm. It would appear that the 2003 vintage has removed some of the generosity normally found in this wine in top years. Nevertheless, it is a fine effort that should drink well through 2027. -Jay Miller
