Founded in 1975, Bodega y Cavas de Weinert is located in Lujan de Cuyo, Argentina´s craddle for top quality wines. The  original building of 1890 of spanish colonial architecture, reminiscent of an old winery owned by the family Otero until 1920, catches the eye by its beauty, inviting those who pass by to know what it guards in its inside. Don Bernardo C. Weinert, founder and owner, could be defined as an entrepreneur. Born in a small german colony in Southern Brazil, he built his name around international transport in South America. Fascinated by the world of wine, he decided to found his own winery in Argentina with one unconditional philosophy: producing high quality wines. Before engaging in such a treat, he made an extensive study about Mendoza: its climate, soil, grapes; and came to the conclusion that Lujan de Cuyo was the perfect place for his project. After a thorough restauration work of the building acquired in 1975, he brought in the latest technology in vinification of that time and was joined by acclaimed oenologists. By then everyone believed him to be insane for facing such a treat. But time proved him to be right. After the first commercial vintage of 1976, by 1977 he produced Weinert Malbec Star 1977, a wine known and acclaimed by the world´s most prestigious tasters. Don Bernardo C. Weinert is a man whose vision for businesses is very simple: "as long as you mantain your own philosophy and keep it throughout the years, you are on the right track." Read less

Multidimensional, amazing depth and balance, and an elegance that is hard to match. Beautifully and pure fruit that embraced all the benefits of gracious aging. It is strange to realize that despite of it´s 30 years, still maintains some fresh fruit and just a wonderful hint of animal characters. It is as exiting as the best Burgundies that I have tasted. Granted that´ve never had one that old.

Mark’s Duck House February 2008 Robert Parker In total contrast was one of my last bottles of the 1977 Bodegas Weinert Malbec. This has always been one of the historic wines of Argentina, and at age 31, it continues to strut its stuff. Possessing the complexity of a first or second growth Bordeaux, wonderful freshness, depth, and ripeness, it offers earthy, spicy, complex fruit in a full-bodied style. 1977 Bodegas Weinert Malbec 94 http://www.erobertparker.com/members/gazette/hg447.asp

Ever since I caught the wine bug I have been searching for a decent wine from my birth year. Turns out ,aside from port , 77 wasn't the best vintage. I was thoroughly surprised to find a Argentine Malbec with that much age still in the market. After 31 years it still had great fruit and was well balanced. It was an absolute treat.

Violets and forest fruits/ animal characteristics on the nose. Figs, raisins and dried fruit on the finish. Absolutely incredible. For a wine of 30 years old it is surprisingly young!

Weinerts first vintage in the renovated winery and bottled in 1998. Harvest was delayed by a month because the facility wasn’t complete which allowed the grapes to ripen further. Elements of earth, spice and aged wood blended with dried fruit show in the evolved nose. The palate is generous, vibrant and tangy. Amazing.

Malbec has the substance to be aged for decades, and this bottle proves it. This wine is just coming into its own, showing all of its Old World character. The palate is full of warm spices, eucalyptus, and blackberries. All in all this is a revelation; not many people have tasted Argentine wine like this.
