Bodega Teso la Monja Almirez Toro 2014

Member Review by Giselle Greenway:

Huge body, I'll call it "chewy," with very complex flavours. I tasted some plum and black licorice, and other thick flavours that I can't quite figure out. I wonder if it might be much better in 10 years?

Even richer is the 2010 Almirez, which comes from a vineyard planted at an altitude of 2,300 feet. Yields were 18 hectoliters per hectare, and the wine was aged 12 months in mostly French oak (30% new). This fabulous, inky/purple-colored wine exhibits notes of violets, graphite, licorice, blackberries and cassis. Full-bodied and rich with silky tannins as well as abundant minerality, this super-rich, full-throttle 2010 can be enjoyed over the next decade.

Generous yet focused, this modern red delivers black cherry, currant, licorice and mineral flavors, framed by toast and coffee notes. Offers a sleek, firm texture and a long, floral finish. Drink now through 2018.

Tiefes, dichtes, brillantes Rot.

Dominio de Eguren Almirez 2007 is a modern red with a vivid ruby red color. It's nose is welcoming with scents of cedar mulch, baking spice and deep fruit. Blackberry, floral, toast, mineral and smoke flavors show depth and complexity in a round, full bodied palate. Ligneous tannins and a faint oily quality on the finish make for a pleasant drinking experience that can be enjoyed until 2014.
