Bodega Sur de Los Andes Malbec Gran Reserva 2006

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Opaque black-purple in the glass. Opens with a huge, spicy nose, strong dried ginger, blueberry compote with a touch of bitter orange jam. This smells both modern and expensive. Very smooth and rich in the mouth with a suave, cashmere fell that belies the wines extraction. The tough, woody tannins pop out, marring the finish but the core of fruit with rich wild berry notes and a hint of vanilla are delicious. Lacks a bit of follow through but still a solid value. 89pts

Blueberries, some spice on palate, more powerful with dark fruits, dark, tannic, not the best mouth feel, not your usual malbec in my eyes

Deep red color, mint aroma on the nose, good bit of spice in the flavor, smooth finish, great structure. Overall a very very nice wine.

100% Malbec which spends 4 months in American oak. Deep purple red color with an aromatic nose of blackberry, cherry, and sweet spice. The palate is flavorful with a touch of lavender and lot's of ripe red and black fruit. This wine is dry, medium bodied, with lively acidity, medium soft tannins, and a medium finish. This is a well made straight forward fruity red. Good for everyday drinking. 3/5

100% Malbec which spent 4 months in mostly American oak. Medium to deep purple red color with an aromatic nose of blackberry jam, black plum, a hint of brown sugar and menthol. This Malbec is dry, medium to medium heavy bodied, with fresh acidity, medium astringent tannins, and a long finish. The palate has lots of flavor with mint leaf, pomegranate, and raspberry. This is an awesome Malbec considering the $10 price tag. I'm guessing this should even get better in the next year or two. 3.5/5

Three and a half glasses

This purplish wine has a highly fruity aroma that mixes with floral and humid, foresty undertones. A very complex flavor that includes black cherries, baked fruit, coffee, and chocolate. It ends with a long, smoky, and spicy finish.
