According to the traditions of the Mapuche (indigenous inhabitants of Chile and Argentina), "Yauquen" is the ritual of sharing a drink. Floral aromas validate the wine's immediate appeal, followed by intriguing flavors of dried fruits, caramel and vanilla bean.
Sweet fruit, no oak, clean and fresh tropical flavors, light-bodied. A nice change from the fatty, buttery Chardonnays. Delicious with pork chops and mango chutney relish.
Forward in style, with lightly toasty, creamy aromas that accent baseline apple and tropical fruit scents. The palate cruises at a good pace, with citrusy apple, lemon and green pear flavors. Long, lingering and a little loud on the finish, with more than ample power and zest.
“Yauquen” is a word from the Mapuche language that means “to share a drink with a friend”. Yauquen is the value line of wines made by Ruca Malen. Grapes are received at the winery in late March immediately following the harvest. After the inoculation of selected yeasts, fermentation lasted 8-10 days at 24-26°C temperatues in stainless steal tanks. Maceration occurred over a 12-day period. Pump-overs were initiated 4 times per day during the first 4 days. Malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks. About 20% of the wine was transferred into oak barrels for 6 months and then once again blended with the unoaked wine.
Black fruit and spices are prominent in the nose, with emerging notes of red pepper and currant. Fresh, vibrant and packed with sweet tannins which give the wine its structure and body. The finish is long and persistent highlighted by hints of elegant toasted-oak flavors.
