Bodega Renacer Malbec Punto Final Reserva 2007
Purpurrot, violette Nuancen.

The 2005 Punto Final Malbec Reserva is dark ruby-colored with an attractive nose of cedar and black cherry. Medium to full-bodied, the wine has plenty of savory flavor, density, and excellent length. It can be enjoyed over the next six years.
A juicy, modern style, with tasty fig, boysenberry, mocha and spice notes, followed by a ripe, vivid finish. Drink now.
Is there a better, more consistent Malbec on the market today than Punto Final? The 2005 is typically rich and dense, with saturated berry aromas and a strong but balanced oak element. The palate is a potpourri of berries, chocolate and vanilla, while the mouthfeel is juicy and stacked. Quite delicious; this is the type of wine that gives Argentine Malbec its good name.
The Bodegas Renacer is a new winery in Mendoza, Argentina, an ultra-modern facility was built in 2004. The wine is very new in how its made but the grapes come from vines that are very old. Two vineyards are sourced for this Reserva, each with 50 year old vines yielding barely 2 tons per acre. Grapes are subjected to a double triage and then fermented in stainless steel under the supervision of famed enologist Alberto Antonini and Hector Durigutti. The wine is aged 10 months in French oak barrels and bottled with out filtration. This 2007 scored 91 points in the Wine Advocate who said "Complex nose that jumps from the glass; layered, sweetly fruited, good volume and length."

The 2006 Punto Final Reserva contains 99% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc aged for 10 months in French oak. It, too, was sourced from vineyards over 50 years of age but with lower yields. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up a fragrant bouquet of cedar, scorched earth, lavender, and black cherry. Layered, dense, and concentrated, it has tons of savory black fruit, spice notes, and excellent balance. This lengthy effort can be enjoyed now but will evolve in the bottle for 2-3 years.
Saturated ruby-red. Deep, smoky aromas of meat and espresso; rather syrah-like. Lush and creamy on entry, then full and slightly saline in the mouth, a step up in thickness of texture from the 2007 regular bottling. For all its sweetness and fullness, this boasts lovely verve and definition. Finishes with sauver tannins and very good lift. The crop level here, from 50+-year-old vines, was reportedly just 23 hectoliters per hectare. (A second bottle, which I rated a point lower, was less meaty but more aromatic on the nose, showing gingerbread and floral lift.)
