Bodega Renacer Malbec Punto Final Reserva 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

The winery was built in 2004 and is located in Perdriel in Lujan de Cuyo in the foothills of the Andes. The fruit for this wine comes from vineyards in La Consulta and Perdriel which have an altitude between 900-1,100m above sea level and poor soils. The vines have an average age of over 50 years and yields are less than 6 tonnes per hectare. Harvest is always done by hand with a double selection of both clusters and berries. Bright, deep ruby in colour with purple hints. On the nose this wine gives intense aromas of blueberries, blackberries and boysenberries with touches of mocha. The palate is rich with black fruit and cassis flavours, vanilla, chocolate and coffee. A juicy mouthfeel with plenty of rounded tannins and a persistent finish.

Opaque black-purple but with a touch of coffee on the rim. Funny this also smells of coffee, creamy coffee and alcoholic, a bit like Irish coffee with notes of spicy wood tones, raw wood, vanilla and a top note of talc. The typical sweet entry is followed by bitter tannins. This is very extracted with a deep core of blackberry fruit that has no finish as the bitter tannins re-emerge. This would be tough to drink more than a taste of. 80pts

It's official - I have a new favorite Malbec! Absolutely delicious, very unpredictable, and that great touch of spice I love.

This is the icing on the cake type of Malbec for me. Full bodied with flavors deepening with every sip. Woody and slighly filmy on the palette which complimented the berries perfectly.

This is a very good malbec value. It is very dark purple and can stand its own w/ spicy food.

Smooth medium fruity flavors with very dark colors.

This was literally bottom of the barrel. There were large chunks of wood and lots of sediment in the bottle that totally ruined the experience. I'll pick up another bottle and try again.

Great Malbec!! Big, full bodied with enough spice and length on the finish. It won't get snuffed out by big, spicy dinners - which means you can drink it with almost anything!

This rich red is aged in French oak for 16 months and then in bottle for a further 6 months. It is deep violet-red in color, with a nose that reveals a combination of red fruits and toasty notes from the oak. On the palate it is a complex and structured wine with a long finish.
