One of the year's best red wine values has to be this fully ripe and totally structured Malbec made by Alberto Antonini (winemaker for Altos Las Hormigas) and Hector Durigutti. The color almost gives away its power; and if not, the aromas of marinated meat, plum and blackberry essence will. Saturated, thick and modern, but made right. Perfect with beef.

Sweet and easygoing from the start, with candied berry and floral aromas. The palate sits at maximum ripeness, meaning itandrsquo;s sweet and soft but still holds its balance. Flavors of baked berry and brown sugar are generous and smooth, while the finish is mellow and lush.

Aromas of black fruits and licorice. Round, pliant and spicy, with subtly sweet flavors of blackberry and bitter chocolate. A plump, fruit-driven malbec with rather sweet, easy tannins.

Juicy and fresh, with raspberry and blackberry fruit, followed by a round, easy finish. Drink now.

Medium ruby-red. Blackberry, licorice and mint on the nose. Dense but bright, with firm acid grip to the pure dark berry flavors. Offers good intensity and a restrained sweetness. A very nice bottle of malbec for the price.

From 50-year-old vines. Bright red-ruby. Crushed blackberry, blueberry and licorice aromas complicated by coffee and bitter chocolate. Concentrated but not overly sweet, with a savory saline quality to the dark berry, violet and truffle flavors. Tannins are smooth but firm. Nicely pure wine with good definition and verve.
