What to Expect

Argentina, and in particular the region around Mendoza, is making a name for itself as the source of some of the finest expressions of Malbec ever made. In this warm, yet dry climate the Malbec achieves near perfect ripeness endowing the wines with a velvety texture and intense flavors of blackberry, peppery spice, and balsamic herbs. The cooler, well-drained slopes of the hillsides of the region have proven to be ideally suited for Malbec, allowing for the wines to achieve a level of complexity and harmony that rivals those of Napa or Bordeaux.

Editorial Reviews

Opaque black-purple but with a touch of coffee on the rim. Funny this also smells of coffee, creamy coffee and alcoholic, a bit like Irish coffee with notes of spicy wood tones, raw wood, vanilla and a top note of talc. The typical sweet entry is followed by bitter tannins. This is very extracted with a deep core of blackberry fruit that has no finish as the bitter tannins re-emerge. This would be tough to drink more than a taste of. 80pts

It's official - I have a new favorite Malbec! Absolutely delicious, very unpredictable, and that great touch of spice I love.

This is the icing on the cake type of Malbec for me. Full bodied with flavors deepening with every sip. Woody and slighly filmy on the palette which complimented the berries perfectly.

This was literally bottom of the barrel. There were large chunks of wood and lots of sediment in the bottle that totally ruined the experience. I'll pick up another bottle and try again.

Great Malbec!! Big, full bodied with enough spice and length on the finish. It won't get snuffed out by big, spicy dinners - which means you can drink it with almost anything!

Smooth medium fruity flavors with very dark colors.

The Malbec grapes from mature vines are sourced in equal parts from the Agrelo and La Consulta regions. The wine is fermented and aged in French oak barriques, with aging lasting 16 months. It is then matured in bottle for a further 6 months. Deep red in color with intense violet shades. On the nose, a combination of red fruits and toasty notes given by the French oak are evident. In the mouth, the wine is complex and structured wih a long aftertaste. Is there a better, more consistent Malbec on the market today than Punto Final? The 2005 is typically rich and dense, with saturated berry aromas and strong read more...
