Editorial Reviews for Bodega Norton Privada
From a typical good quality red wine glass this showed wood and earth with a bit of heat. There were nice notes of leather and a touch of funk/forest floor and a touch of pencil lead. This was matte and rich in the mouth with finely polished tannins and good supporting acids bolstering black fruits with balsamic edges and a nice mineral cut on the back end that lead to a rather abrupt finish. 92pts From Bottega del Vino's stem, the rosso amarone I belive, this offered up a much subtler array of aromatics . There was still a touch of heat but much better integration allowing smoke, menthol, olive brine and chunky fruit notes to emerge. Smooth and polished in the mouth with a more mineral laden, elegant profile than from the restaurant stem. This is brisk and refreshing but again finishes rather briefly though there is a return of dark cherry fruit that grows. Black cherry fruit fills out the mid-palate and there is an attractive herbal top note as well. A solid Cab/Malbec blend that is quite refined.

Strong inky aromas, viscosity, and bottomless deep color raise expectations sky-high for this blend from an often pedestrian brand, even in a relatively unremarkable vintage, and the wine delivers. It begins with a high, smoky note and descends through red berries to a long stewed fruit finish. To be savored today or aged for tomorrow. (AV 93, http://argovino.com/?p=699)
This wine was a wonderful find! Assorted berry nose then luscious fruit, blueberry, red currant jelly. A big red that is well balanced with acid and tannins. Hints of earth and minerals and a long smooth finish that delights. Drinks very well right now! May be golden in the future. 93+
I really like this wine ... bright red fruit with some smokiness and coco. You can definitely taste the malbec but the merlot and cab round this wine out nicely.
Malbec, merlot and cab sauv. Nose of spice with hints on the palate of mouth-covering berry syrup, fig, mocha, fruitcake and has a long full finish. Drinking well now and they said through 2012. - Tasted at Marche` Bacchus 8/8/09
Surprisingly well balanced and smooth. Nice dark fruit with some earthiness. Enjoyed with basic prime rib.
With this number, the Mendoza Bodega Norton has come up with a clear winner in both quality and value. We have a deep, dense and powerful wine dominated by the plummy, blackcurrant flavors of the 3 principal cepages used in the blend. The Malbec lends some nice rusticity without detracting from the overall sense of quality. Oak is also well integrated, and the wine might even improve with another year or two in the bottle. Excellent red for roast beef, barbecue or sitting by the fire on a cool autumn evening. Recommended!

This dark red really opens up in the glass, with dense notes of blueberry paste, kirsch and spicy plum. There's grip, but it’s all fruit, spice and light mocha notes on the finish. Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2014.
In addition to the varietal wines, Norton also produces several blends. The 2009 Privada is made up of 40% Malbec, 30% Merlot, and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from vines ranging in age from 50 to 80 years old, fermented with native yeasts, and raised for 16 months in new French oak. It is a complex offering with an elegant personality, layers of succulent fruit, ample structure, and 2–3 years of aging potential. This outstanding value will be at its best from 2013 to 2024.
Ruby red color of remarkable intensity. Excellent aromatic complexity with notes of ripe fruit and a fine touch of smoke and coffee. Rich on the palate with an excellent concentration.
Forward, with slightly jammy raspberry and black cherry fruit, pushed by bright floral notes and plenty of sweet licorice and spice flavors. Vanilla-tinged toast frames the finish. Good, if a bit heavy-handed in style. Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sau... Wine Spectator. A Proprietary Blend wine from Mendoza in Argentina. 2005 Norton, Bodega Privada Proprietary Red Wine 750ml
