Bodega Enrique Foster Malbec Ique 2004
This is a malbec from Mendoza that will change one's mind of what malbec from this area is all about. Talk about a wonderful seperation of flavor and balanced medium body. The breakdown (in my geeky head) goes like this: Deep red hue with subtle reflective acidity transparency. The nose is earth and and smooth dark fruit with hints of oak that do not overwhelm the senses. This no-nonsense malbec has a palate of depth and concentration that seperates itself and shows its layers individually as it opens up. At no time though does this wine over do it. The earthy quality that is pronounced by the harnessed acidity breaks apart the depth while still retaining the wonderful characteristics of a truly classic malbec. Steak, marinated pork, not too stinky cheeses. That is what's up with my pairings. I love this wine. Before drinking it I thought all malbec was over oaked spicy, dark fruit bombs and that was just how it was take it or leave it. Then I went, POP con el IQUE and all that changed. Check this puppy out. It is great for the price and will impress the guest.
