Lots of wood (cedar?) on the nose, a touch of alcohol and some bacon sizzling too. Palate is very creamy and oaky. Good blackberry fruit, some earthiness, smoked meat, and drying tannins on the sharp finish. This needs more time. Going to leave in the decanter a bit and see if it comes around.Day 2: Left overnight in the decanter, then poured back into bottle and recorked. Opened in the evening, as an after-dinner enjoyment, and enjoyable it was! Much more integrated, smoothed out, less tannic finish. All around, a nicer wine with airtime. Hold this one for at least a year or two, and let it come together. Upping initial score 1 point.

Deep marronish red in color. The nose is blackcherry with funky vanilla-chocolate, and rich dark fruits that seem hidden behind it all. In teh mouth the vanilla and chocolate come forward with a high acidity and thick rich tannins. In the beginning it seems a bit hollow and needs some air to open when black raspberries, and other rich spices come out. Alcohol is a bit high and shows a bit on the finish. 3/5 [NR]
