Colome was farmed for thousand of years by the native population who were excellent stewards of the land. The original Indio language in Ihe Cakhaqul Valley was "Kakan"; but at the end of the 15th century the Incas entered the valley. Since then, the dialect spoken in the valley has been "Quechua". In 1549, Calchaqui Valley was first occupied by the Spanish conquistadores but they encountered stiff resistance from the native population. 90 years later the Spanish succeeded expropriating the native population. As the tale goes, the native tribe chief Colomln received vines from the Spanish conquistadores in the late 16th century for good services rendered. The old Colomi winery was founded in 1831. probably by the Spanish Governor of Salta, Nicolas Severo de Isasmendi y Echalar. His daughter Ascencion, who married Jose Benjamin Davalos, introduced in 1854 from France pre-phylloxera Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon wines to Colome. Three vineyards of 10 acres/ 4 hectares, dating from this time still produce grapes. Colome is considered the oldest existing winery in Argentina. Read less

Very pale yellow. Very floral on the nose with some tropical fruit scents in there. Something of a viscous sensation in the mouth. Honey-ish, fruity--slightly citrus, slightly melon--flavors. Definitely, a gewurz sensation at the back of the throat. Slight tartness lingers in the aftertaste. $11.99 at WIne Club

A bit different. Melony, citrusy, minerally, and slightly peppery all at the same time.

It has a pale yellow color but was bright and some green tones reflects. The nose totally shock me because it was really expressive, floral and herbal fragances combined with some honey and mapple syrup. On the mouth the acidity totally appears from the first sip and it has some crisp sensations, lychee is the most important fruit that appears here. Very unstuos Also. Middle finish and I will eat it with Sushi or Thai food.

This is a truly amazing and surprising wine! I fell in love with it as soon as I experienced the beautiful floral bouquet, then the clean, crisp palette surprised me because it was much dryer then I had expected. It is so fresh. It will now be my new "go to" white wine for the summer. And so affordable, under $15/bottle!

Bright golden-green hue, big aromas of citrus, cut flowers and honeysuckle; broad flavor notes racy stone fruits and citrus, wet stones and orange honey over a moderately long, clean finish.

I drank this one night at the Gotham Bar and Grill in NYC and LOVED IT. Was paying about $12 a glass... for as much as we drank, we could have bought an entire case for the same price! i think this is a great wine for the price.

Grown in Cafayate at 5,600 feet, this has all the floral aspects of torrontés, along with a rich sweetness and a strict structure, which will soften in the company of fish curry. Wine & Spirits. A Torrontes wine from Salta in Argentina. 2011 Colome Torrontes 750ml
