Bodega Chacra Pinot Noir Río Negro Barda 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

"Medium red, a bit pale at the rim. Reticent but ultimately highly perfumed aromas of strawberry, raspberry, flowers, pepper and herbs; showed a darker cherry cola note with aeration. Precise, juicy and seamless, with a savory saline touch to the redcurrant and raspberry fruit flavors. On the light side but subtle, energetic and long for pinot in this price range. This bottling can be fascinating in the better vintages, and 2011 is obviously a strong year here...90" WA 4/13

The property situation in the arid central Argentine desert is tempered by the confluence of the Neuquen and Lirray Rivers, both of which flow from the Andes and converge in the Rio Negro, which in tum flows into the Atlantic. The Rio Negro Valley itself is a glacial bed 15.5 miles wide stretching 310 miles along the rivers banks at an elevation of 750 feet above sea level. The valley is irrigated by a network of channels excavated in the late 1820s by British colonists who observed the abundant snow melt flowing from the Andes and created an oasis in the middle of the desert. Lots to offer in this hard-to-find pinot, from the mix of red cherry and shoe leather in the nose to the smooth strawberry and cherry flavors in the mouth, with just enough structure to carry them through a pleasantly extended finish. Deserves to be drunk slowly! (AV 89, http://argovino.com/?p=1031)

It has a red ruby color and oOn the nose blackberry and coriander (more spices) appear to make this a really pleasant wine. With 12 month on french oak barrel spices continue to expand on the mouth, appearing some leather and some mineral taste-like finish. Black ripe fruit on the after taste. Soft tanins high acidity wich make this wine very nice. Great silky and long finish. Eat it with some Grill Chicken and so much spices.

"A warmer vintage than 2008 but with cooler which helped to keep the fruit fresh and balanced. With a marginally less sweet and 'New World' texture to it

Inky wine that had distinctive old world aromas of charcoal, smoked meats, with bright candied cherries. Medium-bodied wine that is quite smokey with raspberry tart and a nice floral component integra
