This old winery belonged to the family of Gladys Alurralde Norton, who was the mother of Federico J. Benegas Lynch. Agustín Alvarez, Governor of the Province of Mendoza in those years, finished the construction in 1901. The 2009 Benegas Malbec (100%) spent 12 months in French oak. It exhibits some toast in its attractive perfume along with notions of Asian spices, chocolate, and black cherry. In the glass it reveals an extra layer of complexity compared to the Juan Benegas cuvee along with impeccable balance and length. It will provide enjoyment now through 2017.

Full medium ruby. Ripe black fruits, coffee, chocolate and violet on the nose. Sweet but restrained on the palate, with ripe, harmonious acidity giving shape and firmness to the youthfully medicinal blackberry and violet flavors. Nicely fine-grained wine with broad, building tannins. Carries its alcohol gracefully.
