This is quite possibly my absolute favorite Virginia wine and, surprisingly, it comes from a newcomer to the wine scene. The 2005/06 blend combines the winery's first and second Norton vintages. The first flavors are bold and fruity with a spicy finish that has hints of chocolate. This wine is great paired with red meat or alone.
Though I have noted this "neutral" to taste, don't discount this as an up and coming Norton winery. Wonderful location with a commitment by its owners. This young wine was enjoyable to drink, but it did not exhibit true character of the Norton grape as with other vineyards with older more established vines. I believe with only a couple more years of bottle storage that this wine will set better. I've got my last bottle sitting in a nice cool cellar waiting with a 2011 date written on it.
