Blue Mountain Pinot Blanc 2011

Member Review by zufrieden:

After enduring the frustration of a corked bottle, this wine finally comes through without a hitch. Canola oil yellow in colour with a nose of Granny Smith Apple, Bartlett Pear and a hint of cinnimon, the wine does not disappoint. Less extracted than previous vintages due, no doubt, in part to a cool growing season, there are some elements of fine apple cider and Calvados (heat). Very Chardonnay-like with a nice slightly unctuous viscosity and depth; no hollowness often associated with this wine mid-palate. Good medium finish. Very nice. 89-90 points.

Blue Mountain welcomes you to experience wines using exclusively estate grown grapes from its South Okanagan vineyard. Focusing on varietal wines made from Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Gamay Noir, and Pinot Noir, Blue Mountain strives to produce complex, age-worthy wines, consistent in style while allowing the expression of both the terroir and the individual growing season. At Blue Mountain, it also means the use of 100% estate-grown grapes. Following the estate concept to its fullest extent sets Blue Mountain apart from most North American wineries. Indeed, in the burgeoning industry of the Okanagan Valley, Blue Mountain can make the rare claim of more than 36 years of continuous grape production by one family. The grapes that are harvested for Blue Mountain wines are sourced solely from its own vineyard. A philosophy of sustainable land management ensures limited chemical input. Using classic varietals, which originate in France in growing conditions like our own, we limit our crop yields resulting in higher concentration of the fruit. In the winery, winemaker Matt Mavety combines new technology with traditional techniques. The wines are handled minimally to ensure that the delicacy and intensity of flavours cultivated in the vineyard are expressed in the wine. French oak barrels are used in the cellar to soften and add complexity. All of these factors combine to result in a style and finesse fitting to the varietals. Read less
