What started as a hobby in 1998 soon grew into an award winning winery. Ken Bloom decided to learn a little bit about making wine when his brother Jim decided to plant his own vineyard in the Hopland area of Mendocino County, CA. From Hobby to Winery, From California and Yakima Valley to Whidbey Island The first harvest was 1998, and Ken and Virginia traveled to California to help with that first harvest and each year since then. Jim makes sure the best grapes are saved for Bloom Vineyards Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Ken and Virginia have spent time each summer and fall visiting vineyards in Eastern Washington walking the rows tasting grapes and talking to growers to find the best grapes to make their Washington wines. The main source of grapes is in the Yakima Valley area, with Semillon and Sauvignon grapes from Cruz Vineyards and Syrah and Viognier from Julie Bosma. Whidbey Island grown grapes are from Comfort Vineyards on Wilkenson Rd. in Langley Read less

Nice Riesling from Bloom. It's very sweet on the nose with honeysuckle, but the palate is nicely balanced between sweet and acid. As with most Rieslings, this is great with spicy food.

Can't say I agree with some other reviewers here. To me it's drinkable, but that's about it. There's a floral note and some very faint apple on the nose. Apples and pears on the palate, but they're both faint and it seems a tad "watered down". Also, there is a distinct alcohol kick on the finish which is not usual for German style riesling. Someone else said in their review that this was well balanced. I disagree. Perhaps it is acid/sugar wise but it lacks flavor, nose and has too much heat at the end. This is the epitome of unbalanced. In and of itself it's not a horrible wine. For the price you could get much worse than this. However, in comparison to other German rieslings, and this is a GERMAN riesling, it falls flat on its face. I've had tafelwein that was far better than this, and this is supposed to be a qualitatswein, a full quality level higher by German label standards. Sorry, but I can only give this 1.5 glasses. Even as cheap as it is, I will not be buying more. You can spend a mere $3 more per bottle and get a German riesling that will knock the socks off of this one. I say pass.

Crisp and refreshing. A perfect wine to serve on those hot summer afternoons.

I like it. It's sweet, it's crisp, it's cheap. When I invite guests to my house this spring, Bloom is what we'll be drinking.

Cut grass, grapefruit and floral notes fill the perfumed nose of this Riesling. Crisp green apple flavors fill your mouth with balanced acidity on the finish. - Winery
